The Old World, As Preserved
Artifacts drawn from sacred cosmology, celestial maps, lost architecture, manuscript diagrams, and the symbolic systems that once shaped the visible world.
Biblical Cosmology & Sacred Order
Framed poster mapping the Christian cosmological order as a medieval illuminated manuscript, from Christ enthroned above to Tartarus below.
“In principio creavit Deus caelum et terram.”
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
Rendered with floral vine borders, angelic figures, gold-leaf ornament, Latin Scripture inscriptions, and labelled strata, this piece sets the older biblical order into a formal manuscript plate.
The image descends from Christ enthroned in the heavens through the Waters Above the Firmament, the Firmament, the inhabited Earth, Sheol, Abyssus, and Tartarus. Each region is marked with its corresponding Scripture reference, preserving the structure as both devotional image and archival diagram.
For prayer rooms, studies, libraries, church offices, and walls where the record is still allowed to remain visible.

The heavens were not left unmarked.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." — Genesis 1:1
Christ Pantocrator sits enthroned above the created order, set against a field of gold and attended by two archangels. Beneath Him, the firmament forms the boundary between the heavens and the inhabited world below. The earth appears as a bounded disc surrounded by sea, with church, river, and mountain arranged across its surface. Below, Sheol opens through the foundations as a dark cavern, fire visible within, while four angels kneel at the corners of the composition.
This original Etherfolk composition draws on Byzantine iconography, biblical cosmological imagery, and the ordered visual language of illuminated manuscripts. It does not reproduce one surviving historical icon. Instead, it gathers these elements into a single sacred cosmological plate: Christ above, the firmament between, the inhabited earth below, and Sheol beneath the world.
Rendered in deep blue, antique gold, ivory, and warm ink-black, the piece is designed to carry the gravity of an icon while remaining clear about what it is: a modern work shaped by Scripture and historic Christian visual tradition.
Printed on heavyweight artist-grade canvas and mounted within a solid pine floating frame, it arrives ready to hang. The open-back construction gives the canvas a restrained, architectural presence without unnecessary ornament.

The crest came before the standard.
While the emperor flew the dragon, the territory itself carried an older emblem: the owl. It appears in the World Geography published in Paris in 1676, where the article on Tartary is preceded by the image of an owl on a shield — the heraldic device of the land, set down in the geographic record more than three centuries ago.
This is that emblem, rendered in faithful engraving style — the owl forward-facing, perched, talons gripping, in the manner of the period sources. No embellishment, no invention. The crest of Tartary as the old geographies recorded it, on a field of gold.
It is the quieter of the two Tartarian emblems. The one that stood for the place rather than the ruler. For those who prefer the territory to the throne.

Abraham Ortelius published Tartariae Sive Magni Chami Regni Typus in the inaugural edition of Theatrum Orbis Terrarum — the first modern atlas, and at the time the most expensive book in print. The map depicts Tartaria as a named, bounded territory stretching from the Volga and Caspian in the west to the Pacific in the east. The Great Khan's tent appears near the cartouche. A galleon crosses the northern sea. Latin annotations mark the Tatar Khanates, the Great Wall of China, and a conjectural strait between Asia and America. Four engraved states ran from 1570 to 1612.
The territory it names covered more land than any European empire then in existence. It is labeled here without qualification: present in the opening edition of the first atlas of the modern world, drawn by its foremost cartographer.

Flat Earth & Beyond
Beneath the firmament, the world rests within its boundary while the waters rise around the outer edge. This embroidered design reduces the enclosed-world cosmology to its essential forms: the disc, the dome, the ice wall, the appointed lights, and the surrounding sea.
Rendered in deep navy, blue, and aged cream, the illustration is built for embroidery with bold forms and a compact archival silhouette. The unstructured organic cotton cap keeps the piece understated enough for everyday wear while the cosmology remains immediately recognizable to those who know the diagram.

A wearable reminder of the cosmic waters above and the world below.
Some things don't need to announce themselves. This is the flat earth hat for the person who prefers signal to noise. A minimal cosmological symbol — the plane of the earth, the firmament dome arcing above it, Sol and Luna tracing their paths across the interior sky. No text. No explanation. Printed on 100% cotton twill. It reads as myth to the person who isn't looking. It reads as map to the person who is.
This is the flat earth hat for the person who has done the reading. The design is an original Etherfolk vintage engraving style design — the flat earth disc in full, ringed by the ice wall, Sol and Luna orbiting freely beneath the crystalline vault, stars scored across the dome interior like a copper plate pressed four centuries ago.
The washed-out vintage finish of the cap was made for this design. Worn-in, distressed, archival — it looks like it came out of a box that's been sealed since 1887. The kind of object that doesn't explain itself to people who aren't ready to ask.

100% cotton twill
6-panel unstructured low profile cap
